Tips for Creating a Lasting and Loved Wardrobe

A lot of times, I hear people who want to either branch out more or create a wardrobe they love, but the question is - Where do I start? Change can seem to be overwhelming, however it doesn’t have to be if you have direction and vision. Here are some tips and points of guidance that helped me start this process of creating a lasting and loved wardrobe…

You do not have to wait until you have your dream body or biggest budget to enjoy your clothing.

I know the reality of being in the “in between” period. Where you do not want to spend money as the sizes change, however there is still joy to be had here.

Find a color palette that works for you.

Quality over quantity.

Investing in good quality pieces is worth it. Take it from someone who has learned the hard way, having to buy clothing over and over again is frustrating and money-wasting. Don’t get me wrong, incorporating more trendy or seasonal items is not a bad thing, however the foundations of a wardrobe should be created to last. If clothing is worn that often, the quality should match.

Create a foundation of the basics and essentials.

In every closet, the fellow white t-shirt, favorite jean, and little black dress can be found. These items can easily be looked over, but at the end of the day, those are the ones we look to when we feel we have “nothing to wear’.”

Nothing to wear? Maybe you don’t have clothing that feels like you.

When buying clothes, have an idea of at least 2 or 3 outfits in mind that the item can work with.

If you don’t love it in the store, you will not love it at home.

You should not have to convince yourself to spend money and own clothing that will not be worn later. You know yourself, you know if you will wear it or not. It is okay to just put it back and if you are still thinking about it days, weeks, months later - go get it.

Once the foundations are set, branch out with different textures and patterns you enjoy.

You can take risks that are still your style. Different cuts, lengths, textures. When you find what you like, you can branch out from that place.

Have fun!

Clothes are meant to be enjoyed and “fashion” is not an exclusive
